of the care needs that he’s got. As he gets older the
lack of understanding is becoming more challenging as
he doesn’t understand why we are doing what we are
doing with him.”
Hugo’s family are fundraising with Tree of Hope to help
fund therapies as well as supporting his needs in the
future such as equipment and house adaptations. Dad
Charlie said “There’s only a certain amount that the
NHS can provide and it’s also a question of waiting
times. The private therapists see him much more
regularly so they have a much better understanding of
what he needs”.
Becky explained how the bene昀椀ts of the physiotherapy
are already starting to show, commenting “Already
in the time we’ve been doing the therapy we’ve seen
a big improvement in his mobility. When we 昀椀rst
started the private physiotherapy he wasn’t able to sit
unaided and was rolling around the 昀氀oor at 18 months
old. He can now sit unsupported and can transition
from lying to sitting and is also army crawling.” Becky
went on to say “Already he has made gains we
weren’t sure he’d make and is building up the core
strength that he needs. He’s also learning how to use
tools to communicate with us which has reduced his
frustration.”
In November 2024, the family hosted a successful quiz
night to raise money for Hugo to attend an intensive
physiotherapy and hydrotherapy session in Portugal,
which also looks to become an annual event! Similarly,
after completing a very challenging mud run last year,
Charlie and a team of eight friends are running in the
Chelmsford Half Marathon on March 2nd (Charlie joked
“I should really start training for that!”) with Becky also
planning a triathlon in September.
Charlie says “If you are fundraising for your child,
embrace it! It took me a while to open up and realise
you do need people’s help whether it’s monetary, time
or just to listen if you need to rant and rave.”
Charlie went on to say “The fundraising is the fun side
of a life that is incredibly stressful to put it bluntly.
Enjoy the time away from therapy appointments and
throw yourself into whatever you are doing. When I
look back at the quiz night and the events we’ve done I
just remember what a laugh we had doing them.”
Becky and Charlie described the support they receive
from Tree of Hope as “really easy and brilliant. For us,
the biggest thing is the ease, the friendliness and the
help you get from the whole team. The invoicing aspect
of it makes our life so much easier and looking at the
newsletter gives us ideas of what other families are
doing. We really appreciate Tree of Hope’s recognition
of Hugo’s needs.”
Charlie and Becky had this 昀椀nal message for those
who have donated and supported them. “Thank you
will never be enough but we will never stop thanking
you for giving Hugo the opportunity, the time and
the money to be able to afford the specialist help we
need.”
Tree of Hope are delighted to be supporting the
family on their fundraising journey and look forward to
another successful fundraising year in 2025.
